Not Quite Safe and Sound

We Are In- Just About!

Well, we’re in! I’d love to say that we’re in safe and sound but, strictly speaking, that wouldn’t quite be true. After a two year search for the ideal property, a year of being ‘sale agreed’ before we finally moved and a long, cold winter where at one stage we stood and watched the snow falling through the roof onto the floor of what will be our bedroom, we are finally settled. It has been quite a journey thus far though. Continue reading

Art and Wine

A Fine time at ‘Art and Wine’
Earlier this week I had a fine old time channeling my inner artist at a workshop organised by my friend and neighbour, Aly Harte. Aly is a successful artist, blogger, mum, fitness enthusiast and all round ‘good egg’ who, along with many of my other lovely friends, has been a great support to me while I have been recovering from surgery. She has also encouraged me in writing this blog and in finding my own creative inspiration, so I was excited to see her in action and support this event.

The evening was organised by Aly in conjunction with Q Radio as part of the Q Radiothon to raise funds for cancer charities, a cause particularly close to her heart after the recent loss of her cousin.

image1

If you have been following our progress, you’ll know that we are old hands at this moving lark by now (you can read more about our previous house moves here). That being said, moving is always a stressful business and there are no guarantees that it gets easier the more you do it. Here are my top tips on how to make the process go as smoothly as possible if you are planning a move.

About Me

This Old Manse

THE OLD MANSE

It seems like a lifetime ago now. My hubby and I were young and carefree. We were brave and perhaps a little reckless. I was an account director in a PR firm and he was a solicitor. And, of course, we were not yet parents.

It was the height of the property boom and we had made a little extra money when we each sold our first houses to buy our marital home. We had been looking for an investment property, a little ‘doer-upper’ that we could refurbish quickly and sell on or rent out.

Forever home?

There is a chance that Him, Me and Our Three have found our forever home. We’ve been looking for a while but I’ll come to that. I’m sure everyone we know will think we’ve lost our minds. It is one of those projects that screams, “prepare for financial ruin and a shorter life expectancy all ye who enter here!”

About Me

Welcome to Him, Me and Our Three

18157420_114987939064865_6906467537733160539_nI am a stay-at-home mum living in County Down with my husband, Andrew, and our three kids. As a family we are about to embark on a major renovation of a 100 year old property, returning it to a family home from three flats and I’d love you to join us on this journey.

The purpose of this blog is to document our journey of moving and renovation- the highs and lows. I’ll hopefully provide hints and tips as I go along on moving house, dealing with builders, managing a budget, decorating, up-cycling and recycling etc.

I have a passion for architecture which really began when I studied Art History at Glasgow University. After completing my Masters in Glasgow, I moved to Dublin and did a Post-graduate Diploma in Arts Administration at UCD. My first ‘proper job’ was working as a Project Co-ordinator for an architectural firm in Dublin which specialised in exhibition design and interior spaces. I learned so much during this time and my love of architecture and interior design has continued from there. Let’s just say I have an unhealthy addiction to property websites and interior design mags!

Before my third baby arrived, I worked for many years in Public Relations. I now indulge my passion for turning old, unloved properties into beautiful homes by running my own renovation and property management company.
